Emotional intelligence and the workplace

Alex Philip By Alex Philip, 27 January 2012 11:22 am

Our two year journey on the FLDP is based upon intensive learning through our day-to-day roles in our rotations. However, as a break from our normal roles, there are also 6 core modules that form an additional part of our FLDP training. I was lucky enough to attend the first one of these workshops last week called ‘Emotional Intelligence’.

I wasn’t certain what to expect before I arrived, however, having completed the course, I now feel even more equipped to work well in my team and truly add the most that I possibly can. The training centred around learning more about yourself to enable you to work better with others, many of whom will have completely different styles and personalities to yours. I also learnt loads about self-reflection and the importance of giving and receiving feedback, especially from your peers.

Your colleagues are the people who work with you the closest and know you best, so if you get some decent, constructive feedback from these guys then it should be taken on board and acted upon… any help I can get in becoming a better leader is gladly received and I will try my hardest to implement what I have learned from the course in my day to day activities.

See below for a video I took during the training of myself and a couple of my colleagues, Antonio and Haider.
